Hopi Ear Candling Explained

Hopi ear candling, also referred to as thermo-auricular therapy, is a traditional, non-invasive alternative treatment aimed at addressing issues to the ear, nose, and throat. This technique involves inserting a hollow, cone-shaped candle made from cotton, beeswax, honey, and herbs into the ear canal to stimulate the area and help remove excess wax and impurities.

How It Works

The candle is gently inserted approximately a quarter-inch into the ear and lit, allowing the flame to travel down its hollow center into the ear canal. The warm air created interacts with the cooler air in the canal, generating a vacuum effect that helps extract wax, candida, yeast, and other debris. The airflow produced by the movement and compression within the candle chamber acts like a chimney, encouraging a sucking action.

Benefits and Applications

Hopi ear candling is commonly used to alleviate irritation and pressure in the ear, providing relief from issues such as earwax build-up, sinus congestion, sore throats, glue ear, rhinitis, and tinnitus. It offers a soothing and safe alternative for those who find conventional medical treatments uncomfortable or ineffective. Regular candling can help restore hearing, relieve ear tension and pressure, and cleanse the sinus cavities of bacteria.

What to Expect During Treatment

A standard Hopi ear candling session begins with a thorough consultation, followed by the careful insertion of a specialized candle into the ear. The therapist lights the candle and holds it securely while it burns for about 15 minutes. Clients may hear a crackling sound and feel a warm, gentle massage in the ear. Afterward, the therapist will massage the surrounding areas of the ears, face and neck to promote lymphatic drainage and enhance the treatment's benefits.
